When my husband retired in 2005 we decided to move to Bend, Oregon in order to escape the California chaos and return to my mountain roots (although those roots were actually in the Colorado Rockies). After being in sales most of my life, this gave me the opportunity to explore new interests, and maybe a new career.
In 2006 I saw some gourd art for the first time and was absolutely fascinated by it. Being as I had never done anything artsy before, this was taking my interests in a completely new direction. I purchased some hard shell gourds, a wood burner, some wood carving tools, and proceeded to Google lots of images of gourd art.
This unique, multi-dimensional medium encourages so much creativity, whether it be in the carving, coloring, combining natural elements, or coming up with ideas. My gourd obsession has become an endless passion and love – and has even become a career.
My story is proof that anyone can be creative, given the time and passion!
My gourds are for sale at several galleries throughout the Bend area, including the High Desert Museum and Donterra Art Gallery in Sisters. Please contact me if you're interested in buying directly from my blog.
